David Bowie - Diamond Dogs Tour - Live 1974

I guess this is 'Bowie Boots' part two.

This particular bootleg is known as - David Bowie - Strange Fascination 74.

This is one of the few recordings of the Diamond Dogs Tour of 1974.

This one was recorded at The Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles on the 5th of September 1974.

Sound is excellent and its a very good show, to say the least!

There is enough here for two CD's and guess what, I have split the concert into two files for your convenience.

To download the gig click on the links below (which are zipped).

David Bowie - Strange Fascination 1974 Part Two.rar

If you are interested in a wide range of David Bowie music, going back to the mid 1960's, including some rarer material click HERE. There are currently four pages of material so check them all out.

--------------------------------------------

Would you like me to upload the entire 1972 Santa Monica 'Ziggy' gig (sound board stereo quality) ? I have a number of other Bowie boots to share, that are stereo sound board sourced, are you interested ?

The reason I ask is that I have noticed that a lot of people have downloaded the few mp3 outakes, I posted in the first Bowie Boots piece, however very few have asked for more. You can leave anonymous comments below, or personally preferred, email me at perfectradio@btinternet.com, either way feel free to let me know.

Sinead O'Conner - Live Vredenburg - Utrecht - Holland

The Doors - Live - Isle Of Wight - 1970

Known as 'Palace Of Exile' this bootleg is in a class of it's own.

The Doors played not long after midnight, whoever took the time to record this to such a high standard, and those who have ensured that the quality of the recording has remained until today deserve some thanks to say the least.

Considering this boot was recorded thirty seven years ago, it remains a fine quality recording, and really does justice to the highlight of that years Isle of Wight festival.

The art work in the picture contains front and back CD covers. I am not sure of the origins of these, and if they have any resemblance to the early vinyl boots in circulation, however Jim Morrison was certainly sporting the beard etc, at that time.

The entire gig, is in one WINRAR file.

REPLACEMENT LINK IN COMMENTS BELOW (25TH FEBRUARY 2009).

I have added some 'official' recordings to the Beehive Candy Store, some of these are not widely circulated, and if you are a 'The Doors' collector, check out you have them all.

You can click HERE for more live 'The Doors' material via the store.

Click on the image above to enlarge, and if you are interested in some more 'sound board' quality recordings of The Doors leave some feedback or email me - Thanks.

Jeff Buckley - Liquid Room Tokyo 1995

This is Jeff Buckley live in japan in 1995.

The audio quality on this concert is superb for an audience recording.

The concert took place on January 30th 1995, and as far as I know was just one of two gigs he undertook in Japan.

The full concert listing is as follows:

1. Dream Brother 2. Grace 3. So Real 4. Last Goodbye 5. What Will You Say 6. Lilac Wine 7. Mojo Pin 8. Eternal Life 9. Improvisation / Lover, You Should've Come Over (10. Vancouver) (11. Kanga-roo) 12. Hallelujah / I Know It's Over (Smiths cover).

I am afraid that my copy of the gig does not include Vancouver and Kanga-roo.

This was a wonderful concert. My life flies by. It is now over ten years since the tragic loss of Jeff Buckley, I still often wonder what may have followed if only...

This is the last full concert bootleg of Jeff Buckley for a while on Beehive Candy, however more are planned to follow. I am in the process of going through 'one offs', studio rarities and so forth, and as time permits will upload these shortly (some more real gems to share).

REPLACEMENT DOWNLOAD LINK IN COMMENTS BELOW OR CLICK ON THE PICTURE ABOVE (2ND SEPTEMBER 2009).

Official material HERE, in the Beehive Candy Store.

Finally I am after any standard of recording of Jeff Buckley's gig at CBGB's, NYC, December 18, 1993. If you can help - thank you...

What Is Soul

I am not an expert on soul music. I do not even know if some of the music I call soul music, is soul music. I expect some purists may be upset by my inclusions.

I do know that Stax, Volt, Atco, and Atlantic Records, were the home labels for alot of sixties & seventies soul.

As regards the artists and songs on the 1969 sampler 'This Is Soul' that prompted this article, most tracks were recorded in Tennessee with Booker T and the MG's or in Alabama with the Muscle Shoals session musicians.

It was my older sister that first purchased this album, I just used to play her records when she was out. This had a huge impression on a very young me, one I am glad to say helped to broaden my musical taste at a young age.

Other tracks below, are just a variety of what I regard as soul music, and are there because I like them.

As regards Tamla Motown, well I have a huge collection of vinyl, going back to the early sixties, and will try & dig out some gems for another post.

So in particular from artists included in the This Is Soul sampler album, but not exclusively have a listen to some of the following, I dare say most soul music fans probably have them all.

Anorak Corner - Part Three

Holland can proudly claim to be the home of offshore radio in the early 1970's.

Radio Caroline relaunched off of Holland, joining Radio Northsea International who had both Dutch & English language programming (and at one time German).

There was also Dutch station Radio Veronica, which had soldiered on from the 1960's. Radio Atlantis also had Dutch & English services, and somewhere along the line I know the Flemish had a share on the speaking front.

All of this had two notable beneficial effects. Firstly those in Holland, and bordering areas, along with those of us in the south of England, had a really good selection of Real Radio Stations to listen to.

Secondly, this proved to be a tremendous melting pot for good quality European pop music, and the burgeoning rock music scene. Not surprisingly the British singles & album charts so long an almost exclusive home of British & American artists, started to have some 'foreigners' present.

Focus, Golden Earring, Kraftwerk, and Gong spring to mind. Other bands such as Earth and Fire (a personal favorite), Can, Faust, Kayak, and Amon Duul (1&2), also had a strong following in the UK.

There will be others who have not sprung immediately to mind, this was not supposed to be a memory test. OK, so hopefully you get the picture, or remember it well. In the true international nature of this article I am even listening to Gong as I type (anyone for a teapot taxi?).

So as a taster of the then wonderful cross border musical scene, here are a few tasters for your enjoyment.

Can - Future Days.mp3

Other bands mentioned in this piece will follow in an additional posting (saving some gems for another time).

I have a selection of CD's available from bands MP3's posted in this article HERE.

Don't get me wrong, this was not some exclusive club. The 'cloggies' in particular played some absolute horrors, if I never here another Dutch barrel music song, the damage will still remain, and as for The Smurfs, well what can I say. It was however a great time for discovery, something the Internet which has the capability to match, is yet to achieve.

To be impartial, my music collection at the time was still growing courtesy of UK & US artists, it was an absolute plus though, to have these other sources of new music.

Alanis Morissette - Lets Dance !

It goes without saying that this is my blog, so I am going to post 'stuff' about music I like.

I like Alanis Morissette, she has in my humble opinion made some good albums, and is worth catching live, if you ever get the chance.

I am glad I formed my opinions upon hearing Jagged Little Pill, for the first time, rather than her 1991 release simply called Alanis.

Thankfully I came across the 1991 album via another site, which with hind site was dwelling on some real cheesy musical genres and artists. So I guess I was prepared for this to be a little different from her more recent music.

It is different. I guess made in 1991, a rather young Alanis had all of the 1980's growing up to, well er... 1980's music.

So here for your enjoyment are some tracks from the Alanis album.

Alanis Morissette-Alanis-01-Feel Your Love.mp3

Alanis Morissette-Alanis-07-Jealous.mp3

Alanis Morissette-Alanis-10-Party Boy.mp3

It's different huh? Still just think she got her 80's disco pop, out of her system young, and was able to move on to much finer creations.

I guess it's pretty obvious I am going to add Ironic isn't it !

Alanis Morissette - Ironic.mp3

Please do let me know if you want some more from Alanis, I will be intrigued.

Purchase Alanis Morissette HERE (sorry not the 1991 release).

Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band

We live in the age of remastered and re-released albums.

You usually can expect a few 'unreleased' extras, a bit of playing around with the original cover, and hey presto, it's a must have (or so the record industry will tell you).

Some times these albums are really worth all the effort, some however from personal experience, are noticeably the same to listen too (or even worse audio quality), and you understand straight away why the 'extra free tracks', were never originally released.

So the Bonzo's have had their classic albums remastered & re-released this month. Well good for them, having looked at some of the additional 'extras' I would anticipate that most real fans probably have copies of these from other sources, already in their collections.

That said, the pricing seems very reasonable for these goodies, and there may well be a whole new generation (or generations), yet to discover this quintessentially British legend.

Some of the material has understandably dated, some of the jokes wear a bit thin after a while, however the Bonzo's remain a firm favorite of mine, not least as they could take on so very many different musical styles, but also because at times they were really quite mad.

In no particular order, just as a reminder, enjoy a little light madness for a while.

Jeff Buckley - Arlene's Grocery - 1997

Jeff Buckley was born in California's Orange County in 1966.

He died in a tragic drowning accident on May 29th 1997.

He left one near perfect album, several live concerts recorded and released in full or part prior to, and/or after his death, and the material that may have lead eventually to a second 'proper' album.

If you are a fan this leaves a void, that can never be filled.

Sadly for an artist as talented as Jeff, the 'unofficial' recordings remain sadly few and far between. In away this is a good thing, as a badly recorded concert, would be such an injustice, to someone who was capable of such incredibly moving music, and never had the chance to expand definitively beyond his debut album.

The bootlegs that I have of Jeff Buckley are few in number. I know of around fifteen, that are supposed to be of good quality, the live radio material seem to be those most widely circulated.

This is my favorite. The copy I have was called 'The Grace Of J'.

At midnight on February 9, 1997, Jeff Buckley debuted his new drummer, Parker Kindred, in a show at Arlene Grocery on New York's Lower East Side. He also played a couple of solo gigs in New York during the first months of 1997: a gig at the Daydream Cafe (featuring band members Mick Grondahl and Michael Tighe as "special guests") and a solo performance February 4 as part of the Knitting Factory's 10-Year Birthday Party.

This is the Arlene's Grocery gig.

REPLACEMENT LINK NOW IN COMMENTS BELOW OR CLICK ON THE PICTURE (21ST OCTOBER 2009).

Find out more about Arlene's Grocery HERE.

The Beehive Candy Store has a definitive collection of Jeff Buckley music HERE.

The audio quality of the Arlene's Grocery gig, suggests the soundboard was used, even if audience 'chatter' is apparent on a couple of occasions. The conversation between Jeff Buckley and the audience is in really good humour, his impersonation of Tom Waits is priceless.

Random Mode Three

I once grew my hair long, very long, totally long, longer than most. I was not famous, so having the photo's destroyed was not to difficult. With hind site I am glad I have never been famous, my long hair was only known to the peers of my time, who are also not famous, so problem solved.

Thankfully I still have the option of growing my hair longer, however I am pleased to say The Move circa 1970/71, have helped me to take the right decision. Plans to grow my hair long again, are not in place.

Mind you, if I had one tenth of their musical talent, I would be a very contented person, as music goes.

So to the music, and as random mode goes, this week I have been kicking the doors of random down.

Maybe it's the weather (the Gulf stream is a few hundred miles short of it's target for the time of year, but thanks to Fox News I realise this is not a problem, and getting wet & having no sunshine is a privilege).

Anorak Corner - Part Two

Listening to Radio Caroline in the 1970's was fantastic.

Having become 'Europe's first and only album station', you had a diverse selection of 'album orientated' music, that varied according to the presenters tastes.

There were singles too, however the format veered towards rock music from the late sixties on.

That said, some presenters (the late Tony Allen springs to mind straight away), pushed the boundaries of musical choice.

Anything with a 'Peace and Love' orientation, had a fighting chance of being aired.

For me Timmy Thomas remains indelibly imprinted on my mind.

Timmy Thomas - Why Cant We Live Together (MP3 Policy - Link Expired).

This song captures the spirit of Radio Caroline at that time, however Timmy Thomas was never a one hit wonder. Discover more great music from him HERE.

Coco Rosie

One of my concerns with Beehive Candy is the fact that I tend to look back to the past.

I do not want to be the 'oldest swinger in town' that's definite, and name droppers bore the pants off me.

However if I look at the mp3's I have downloaded in the last six months, I reckon at least half or more are from artists that are at the very least still touring and producing music, and a healthy number are at least half my age.

That's not a case for street credibility, rather a statement of fact, and an appreciation that from my perspective, despite all the manufactured dross, that has always done the rounds, some individuals, and bands are still interested in creativity, developing ideas, and just being themselves. All of this despite the music industry.

A recent favorite of mine are Coco Rosie. They remind me of bands of the past (Cocteau Twins & This Mortal Coil), and yet have their own unique sound, and dare I say originality.

Check them out here & purchase if you so wish :- COCO ROSIE.
